Gone are the days when big horsepower Subarus were limited in tuning and in ultimate horsepower numbers by mass air flow meter capabilities. Cobb Tuning has seemlessly intergrated speed density tuning into the factory ECU and we have had the opportunity to run the new SD system through it's paces on a customer's car and we love what we have seen thus far.

The Cobb Tuning software allows for 3 different modes:

1. Full MAF mode (Used for setting up VE table typically)

2. Hybrid MAF / MAP mode. (Allows the switching between MAF and MAP sensors at a set crossover point. Great for large MAF housing cars)

3. Full MAP mode. (MAF sensor removed from the system completely. Requires the installation of a MAP sensor and a IAT sensor)

Our most recent tune was in full speed density mode with the full removal of the mass airflow sensor. We installed a GM intake air temperature sensor in the cold side intercooler piping and we installed a AEM 3.5BAR MAP sensor in the stock sensor location using the Cobb Tuning sensor adapter.

Using the Cobb AccessTuner Pro software we were able to quickly and easily setup the ECU for the intake air temp sensor and map sensors. Our in house tuner Andy was able to setup the volumetric efficiency table based off of a prior safe MAF based tune performed here at R/T Tuning. Once the volumetric efficiency table was setup we were ready to remove that limiting MAF sensor, disable the rear oxygen sensor feedback, lock the ECU into open loop mode, and really start to move some air on this GT35R powered car.

Over the course of many dyno pulls and logs Andy was able to finalize the tune and turn on the closed loop fueling again. Fuel trims were +/- 1%, idle was incredibly stable at 800rpm with 1100 cc/min. injectors and large cams, driveability was nearly stock like, and the car pulled all the way to 7,400 rpm smoothly.

It used to be that you had to run a high idle to keep a heavily built Subaru running at idle but with the new Cobb SD tuning we can help you achieve a rock steady idle and incredibly smooth power band even when heavily modded.

We stopped this tune at a high boost level of 23psi which shows the true potential of this setup and the Speed Density tuning software. We will be bringing Chris back in for some more boost with the hopes of handing him some 500+ wheel horsepower, pump gas dyno charts.

Enjoy watching Chris' car as it puts down over 450 all wheel horsepower on pump gas.

Speed density tuning with the Cobb AccessTuner Pro software is currently supported for all of the 2.5L powered Subaru vehicles. Call us today to setup your tuning appointment.

So we been doing small stuff over the last year to get our Retail side of R/T Tuning Speedshop up and running. We have installed a Parts window from the service side of R/T to the New Speedshop Retail side to service the techs. Essentially we are trying to set up R/T like many other dealerships you have probably been too. There will be a separate service side that will handle all the drop offs and pick ups for the customers we are providing service work too.

The R/T SpeedShop side will consist of a well stocked parts area that a customer can come in and inquire about parts and accessories. What this will do is enable us to give better customer service and be able to spend more time with customers by separating the parts from the service. We will be employing s parts only employee that will be specific to the parts area as well as expanding our hours. This will be beneficial to our customers in many ways. How many of ya guys needed a simple 3 inch 2 bolt gasket and the parts store was like "what??" We will be stocking couplers, clamps, fittings and a lot of common parts you always seem to need when installing something, and of course being attached to R/T Tuning you will be getting expert technical advise to come with those parts!! We are also working on the specifics of having a parts delivery vehicle to add as another service.

Also we will be installing a larger waiting area with a lounge that will have many things to keep ya occupied, or if ya need to get some work done we will have a work station area set up with WIFI and printer hook ups. We hope to make R/T Tuning your one stop shop for all your needs!!! We are aiming for a 1st of spring opening with a Grand Opening to follow in the next few weeks following!!!

Within the import community the MKIV Supra overshadows all of the older generations these days but the MKIII Supra still has a pretty strong following of enthusiasts and the car itself still has a ton of potential. Our customer Jon has had a strong love of the Mark 3 and finally found this great basis for a project.

One short coming of the MKIII Supra in standard trim is the somewhat unreliable 7M-GTE engine it was equipped with. Our customer decided to make the jump to the more powerful and more reliable 1JZ-GTE twin turbo motor. We made some subtle changes to enhance the performance of the Supra while striving for a factory like appearance on the exterior and under the hood.

The HKS exhaust adds an aggressive not to the exhaust under boost without hurting the stock like appearance the customer was looking for. The lowering springs also added that slight drop for better handling while not hurting the driveability or ride of the Supra. The stock sport settings still work on this old girl!

With 2011 coming to a close it completes our 8th full year in business. 2011 was a good year for R/T Tuning, sales were increased, employees were hired and more services were provided. This year we brought on a 4th full time tech Bill House. Bill was a Daimler Chrysler Master tech for 15 years, as well as an ASE Certified Master tech. Also we added another full time salesman to operate our online sales and assist with customer support. Will Schneider has been in sales and involved in the automotive scene for several years. This brings our employee total to 7 full time employees with over 65 total years of experience.

2011 was our first full year with the Mustang AWD dyno up and running. Having the AWD Dyno finally in house allowed our Tuner Andy Brahy to dial in the tunes for better drivability, more power, and use our own equipment to help diagnosis issues faster and more accurately. On our Dynojet 2wd Dyno this year, we surpassed over 1600 cars run, over a 1200 cars tuned and a total of over 16,000 dyno runs since the dyno has been installed (mid 2005). We became a Cobb Mazda Pro Tuner for Mazda vehicles, to our already acquired Cobb Subaru and Mitsubishi Pro Tuner Status. We also performed more product testing this year then we have in the past, due to our equipment and controlled method of testing.

This year we upgraded our software to keep not only current, but to help us align vehicles more accurately and faster. In the middle of 2011 we had surpassed our 1000th alignment, with over half of them being full coilover alignments. Making us one of the most experienced performance alignment shops in the Northeast US. This year we also performed a lot more “fitment” alignments. This year we added the services of having our customer’s vehicles detailed by “The Detail Shop” for pick up. We also have this service done for our customers at no charge for larger jobs. We also invested in higher quality fender rolling equipment. We continually have a great working relationship with our body shop of choice LIP Collision and still offer the service of working together with them on large projects as well.

2011 was a good year for shop upgrades, both cosmetic and equipment. We added another lift, top quality SnapOn MIG/TIG welder, fully upgraded Launch scan tool, as well as many job specific service tools to stay current. We also purchased back up stacks for the dynojet dyno and back up components for the Mustang AWD dyno, assuring us the least amount of down time and greatly reducing the risk of a customer having to reschedule their appointment. We painted the shop area, added drop reel air lines, a parts window, and some lighting upgrades. We also updated our front service office with new service writer desks, freshly painted walls and many cosmetic upgrades.

2011 was a mixed year for online sales. Our “R/T Speedshop” site had steady sales but did not increase over time. We have over 850 products onwww.rttspeedshop.com. Our Ebay store “Performance Outlet East” did very well and had increases in the months expected and still did well in the months were sales were not increased. We currently have over 3600 products on our Ebay store.

2011 was another successful year for R/T Tuning sponsored race vehicles with over 7 total Top 16 finishes, 5 top 8 finishes, and 3 podiums in drifting. Also 6 top ten finishes and 4 podiums in our sponsored road racing cars. We tuned and aligned a large percentage of road race and drifts cars in the NE keeping us the go to shop for race car preparation.

This past year we had the privilege of being able to play a large role in a great charity event. Ken Aiani came to us with a proposal to host a charity dyno day for a fellow automotive enthusiast Mike Bartuski. Mike was in a very bad car accident which left him paralyzed from the waist down. The community as whole really came together and made this a great event and together we all raised over $6500 for Mike and his family to help with his living conditions. Unfortunately Mike passed away later that year during a medical procedure. I take comfort in knowing that the event raised Mike’s spirits and the money raised bettered his quality of life before he passed away. I am very proud of everybody at R/T Tuning, Ken and all of the other volunteers, as well as the local car community that made it such a great event.

2011 was our best year for social media and online communication with our customers. We have over 1,400 facebook friends and updated our facebook page daily. We also posted over 80 blog posts on our website keeping our customers and followers constantly up to date. This year we added more ways for customers to contact R/T tuning as well as implemented systems to make sure we are always available during business hours and able to contact customers who have tried to contact us during closed hours.

In 2011 we made several performance parts supplier acquisitions. Being as we are going into our 9th year we already have dozens of suppliers, as are direct with dozens of manufacturers. We also added more OE and OE aftermarket supplier which allow us to get multiple parts deliveries per day. Most parts are able to be obtained the same day and if they need to be ordered in within 48 hours. We also created a larger area for stocked parts as well as increased our stock supply.

Overall 2011 was a good year for R/T Tuning. We had customers travel from as far as Canada and Alaska for our services. We have stayed prevalent and on the fore front of the aftermarket and performance industry. We continually made upgrades and implemented systems to better serve our customers. Without our customers and their trust in us we wouldn’t be able to continually get better every year. We look forward to all feedback, so we as a company can continue to get better. I would like to take this time to thank all of our customers for their great support in the year 2011 and look forward to 2012.
